History

The suburb of Lynfield has only been closely settled since the 1950s. The important economic activity of raising poultry was developed. This farm provided table fowls and eggs for the Auckland Area. The original name for the farm was Linfield. Alfred Bankhart established Linfield on land gifted to him by Sir John Logan Campbell. Gilletta Road in Lynfield was named after Bankheart's wife's maiden name.

Two gentlemen named Edwards and Cooper grew strawberries on the land now owned by Lynfield College. Thus the Symbol of the plough on their Logo. Eventually in the mid 1950s, the land was made available to make way for a new secondary school which is now Lynfield College.
